When the Festival first started back in June 1975, it was originally known as the “Cults Festival”. Taking place at the end of the school year, the Festival complimented end-of-school year celebrations, and most events centred on the Academy and local Churches. The original logo was drawn by Rev. Donald Rennie and was used on all publicity material until the late 1980s.
Following a ten year break, the Festival returned in 1999 as the “MBC Festival”, acknowledging the wider local community. The new pennant-style logo, designed Eleanore McKay, was used for a number of years.
This year, we will be running a COMPETITION throughout the MBC Festival to find a new logo!
We want to source a logo that we can use from 2018 to clearly identify and promote the MBC Festival in our community. The logo will appear on the posters, flyers and the new banners that we intend using in the three villages – so your artwork could be on display for many years to come!
All local residents are welcome to participate – there is no upper or lower age limit. The logo must be sized for A5 (portrait) and must be submitted to the Cults Library by Monday 21st August. You can enter as many times as you like if you have a few different ideas that we can choose from. Just remember to include your name and contact details on the back so that we can contact you!
The submitted logos will be displayed in the Library throughout the Festival period. Residents will be encouraged to go in, take a look and can vote/ feedback on the ones they like best. All feedback will be taken into consideration by the committee and a final decision made at our final 2017 meeting in October. The winner will be informed directly, and we’ll let everyone know the winner via MBC News at the end of the year.
